An evening with lavender

Let a familiar corner of the house mark the end of the day.

RITUALS

Clear a little space beside a favourite chair. Put a book within reach. If you enjoy lavender, a small arrangement of dried stems can bring the garden into the room. Its muted colour works quietly beside linen, wood and well-used ceramics.

Leave the arrangement away from heat and open flames. Choose a position where it can be enjoyed without getting in the way of everyday life. The point is to make a small corner feel considered, rather than to add another task to the evening.

If lavender body care is already part of your routine, follow the finished product’s label and its directions. K1’s Australian lavender guide identifies Victoria as the botanical origin, while final ingredients and product-specific information belong with the released formulation. [12]

Then settle in. Read a few pages, write a note, or simply let the room be quiet. Leave the book open if you like. For a little while, the evening can move at your own pace.

A garden note

Lavender favours plenty of sun and free-draining soil. Choose a variety suited to your local conditions and seek local advice on planting and pruning times. A bright outdoor spot is a better beginning than a damp, shaded corner. [13]
