A place to begin
There is a moment before the first sip when the day still feels open. A cup is set down. Someone pulls up a chair. A familiar scent travels through the room.
These are small things, but they help give everyday life its shape.
Welcome to the first issue of K1 Origins. This journal makes room for the stories behind what we enjoy and the moments we make with it. Across coffee, lavender, places and people, our starting point is curiosity: where did this begin, what shaped it, and how might we appreciate it more fully?
We begin in Sri Lanka, following the history of Ceylon coffee and its place in the present. We bring Brazilian coffee to the kitchen table, explore the meaning of Beyond Product, and follow a trail towards Ethiopia, where botanical history and a much-loved legend meet.
Along the way, there is room for the garden, for an unhurried evening, and for a conversation that lasts beyond the coffee.
